Review - Pedro Del Gardo + My Birthday
I can count the number of times on one hand that I’ve seen a packed floor blow up in Raleigh to straight up techno. This was one of them. Pedro brought the absolute heat and had the party going absolutely ape-shit until closing. Jeremy Granger and I skillfully warmed the floor up for him in what was probably our best collaboration in the booth to date.
While it was necessary to start off with some deep house in the beginning to mitigate shell shock as people were coming in, it was a smooth transition into the housier side of techno ala Granger and yours truly. We were able to keep the energy building until 12:30am. When Pedro went on, it was like butter dripping off a hot biscuit (tribute to Primus there) and he seriously killed it.
As it turns out, and much to my suprise, Pedro used to own Tune Inn records just outside of Leeds in the UK. When I was studying abroad, that was my favorite place to shop for records. When I came back to the states back in 96, I bought all of my techno almost exclusively from Tune Inn. It was nice reminisce with Pedro about all the crazy times I had catching Joey Beltram, Choci and Dave Clarke at The Orbit in Leeds, The Room in Hull, and Pure in Edinburgh. Those were some good times.
Also, the seared tuna and lobster risotto was superb!!! Thanks for all the shots of Jameson too
. Gruv Glu once again delivered. Great job all.
